Wild Spaniel Films is the brainchild of Callum Ward, a development and editorial creative who has spent over seven years working across the UK television industry.
Beginning his career in the story offices of long‑running series such as Coronation Street, Holby City and Waterloo Road, Callum cut his teeth in fast‑paced environments handling complex storylines and sensitive subject matter. This early grounding shaped his instinct for character, structure and collaborative problem‑solving.
During his time in commissioning at BBC Scotland, Callum worked across the full scripted slate — including projects such as Half‑Man, Dinosaur and The Ridge. He also led BBC Scotland’s Short Stuff strand, scouting emerging comedy voices and developing digital‑first shorts designed for mobile audiences.
Today, Callum works with indies across the UK as a freelance reader and story consultant, while developing his own projects under the Wild Spaniel Films banner. He is also the co‑founder of the East Anglia Film Festival, an upcoming industry‑focused event championing regional talent and strengthening creative pathways across the East of England.
At the heart of Wild Spaniel Films is a simple belief: just because someone tells you not to do something, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Like a wild spaniel, we take life in our stride — curious, determined and unafraid of the unconventional. That spirit shapes how we develop stories, support talent and approach every project: with energy, openness and a willingness to run towards the ideas others might overlook.
